Lillian (“Lil”) Jane Szczukowski, (nee Zupancic), 88, of Chattanooga, born in Pueblo, Colorado on April 14, 1926 passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 after a brief illness.

Survivors include her daughters Lisa Szczukowski, D.V.M. and Lori Szczukowski, M.D.; son Myron J. Szczukowski, Jr., M.D.; her three granddaughters Kira Newman, Julia Newman and Jennifer Rosen; and her five grandsons Philip Rosen, Andrew Rosen, Myron (“Max”) Szczukowski III, Alex Szczukowski, and Zach Szczukowski. Her late husband, Myron (“Mike”) J. Szczukowski, Sr., M.D. died in October, 2011.

After graduating from the Nursing Cadet Corps Program at MinnequaCorwin Nursing School and Pueblo Junior College, Lil was hired by the Panama Canal Company to work as a nurse at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, where she met and married Mike. Two of their children were born in Panama, and one in Denver. After eight years in the Panama Canal Zone and eight years in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the family moved to Chattanooga in 1968.

Lil was famous for her generosity, unbridled energy, compassion for others, and her love of people, tennis, travel, reading, charity work, and bridge. Above all, she was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

Before passing, Lil said, “I was fortunate enough to enjoy caring and loving children, grandchildren, and friends. Family and friends make life...” Her motto was “Carpe Diem.”

Friends and neighbors are invited tojoin the family at an event to celebrate Lil’s life, to be held at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, April 11, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. The family will hold a separate, private graveside service.
