R. D. Lyle, 89, of Charleston, died Friday, November 14, 2014. He was an avid wood worker, gardener and loved to fish. He retired from Bowater after 32 years. He was a former Mayor of Charleston, former Secretary for 36 years, twice Past Master and 60 year member of Charleston Lodge No. 484, F. & A. M. where he maintained a proficiency card to teach masonry. He was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church and currently attended Charleston Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his parents, Jessie Lihue and Ida Bell Goodner Lyle, brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Stella Mae Lyle, six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruby Lyle Rogers, Marie Johnson, Della Gilmore, Daisy and George Dowdy and Opal and Fred Lowery.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Nell Pierce Lyle; son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Mary Lyle of Houston, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jerry Crane of Merritt Island, FL; three grandchildren and spouses, Monica and Derek Russell; Rob and Alisha Crane and Derek Lyle and fiance’, Marilu Caldillo; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Evan and Adrian Crane.
Visitation will be Monday, November 17, from 2-4 in Charleston Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
