Thelma Jane (Schick) Hurry, 87, passed away February 14, 2017 in Chattanooga, TN.
She was born August 16,1929 in Dearing, Kansas.

She was adopted at age 12 by John and Irene Miller from Atchison Children's Home where she was placed after her maternal mother passed away from an illness. She grew up on a farm in Rooks County.


Thelma was a 1949 graduate of Logan High School, Logan, Kansas.
She married Rayburn Jean in 1949 and son Ronald Lee Jean was born. 

 

 On Oct 12, 1957 Thelma married Alvin Schick, to this union their daughter Cindy Sue Schick was born.


Thelma was a long time Resident of Phillipsburg, Kansas, where she was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
She worked at Phillipsburg Lockers and Norton State Hospital. In 1979, Thelma graduated from Colby Community College and continued to work at Norton State Hospital.

 

She lived in Harlingen, TX for many years and loved music jams, hummingbirds, tending to her beautiful flowers, and dancing, which she did up until May 2016.

She had a kind heart towards all animals and enjoyed caring for and loving many (pets and fur babies) over her lifetime.


She was predeceased by her paternal father, maternal mother; her adopted parents, John and Irene; brothers, Lester, Gail & Harold Davis; husband, Alvin Schick and husband Merl Hurry.

 

Survivors include her two children; Ronald Jean and wife, Frances, Topeka KS, Cindy (Schick) Williams, of Cleveland, TN, one granddaughter, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

 


Ms. Hurry was cremated. She will be interred in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Stockton, KS, services will be held at a later date.

 

Memorials in Thelma's name are suggested in lieu of flowers, to a Dementia or Alzheimer's care center or organization to help others with this devastating illness.
